Improve your kayaking skills - for fun and for safety!

At Sea Kayak Malta we offer the ‘Paddle Sport Award Scheme’ accredited by the British Canoe Union. The 1 and 2 star awards provide a solid foundation for anyone wanting to start the sport of kayaking.

BCU 1 Star

The '1 star' is designed as an introductory / encouragement award, set at the level typically reached by most people after an introductory course with around 6 hours on the water. The award can be taken in any type of paddlesport craft and is a great start in becoming a paddler.

Pre-requisites
There are no pre-requisites for the course and candidates do not need to become members of the BCU to take part.

Venue
Very sheltered water.

The course will last three days and will be conducted with to days of training and one day of assessment and will cover the following skills:

BCU 2 Star

The '2 Star' is an improvement award that helps paddlers develop fundamental paddlesport skills on flat water in a variety of craft. The emphasis is on gaining a breadth of experience, creating the desired movement of the boat and developing an understanding of how the paddle, boat and water interact.

Pre-requisites
Candidates must be able to swim 25 meters wearing a buoyancy aid and have experience paddling two different kinds of craft (for example a sea kayak and a sit on top kayak) in two different locations.
Candidates must also have logged a minimum of two journeys with a minimum duration of 2 hours, or joined two club events or competitions.

Venue
Sheltered water.
